Africa-Press – Uganda. Kitara Football Club president Deo Kasozi has officially stepped down from his role after three years at the helm of the Hoima-based football club.
The announcement was made during a press conference held Tuesday evening at the club’s main office in Hoima City.
Kasozi, who assumed the club presidency in July 2022, cited the end of his three-year term and a desire to pursue a personal football project, which he plans to unveil between 2027 and 2028.
His departure comes despite widespread calls from fans and stakeholders urging him to stay on.
In the interim, the club’s Vice President in charge of Administration, Police Officer Gilbert Nyaika, has been appointed acting president with immediate effect.
Reflecting on his tenure, Kasozi highlighted several major achievements under his leadership, including the construction of Royals Park Stadium in Butema, consistent participation in the Uganda Premier League, winning the Uganda Cup, and having players nominated for international competitions.
“We have achieved a lot as a club during my tenure. Let other people come and serve as well,” Kasozi said.
However, he also pointed to financial challenges as the most pressing issue facing the club. “Our team is a community team, so when fans don’t come, it means no money.
This is very common when the team doesn’t perform well. I want to tell you that fans contribute only 12% of the club’s budget,” he explained.
Kasozi appealed to the government and local authorities to support Kitara FC and help formalize its status as a community club.
“It creates employment for many people. We need to have it registered as a community team and also receive government and local council support. It’s a uniting factor for the region,” he added.
News of Kasozi’s departure was met with shock and gratitude by fans. Kitara FC fans’ chairperson Edson Kyaligonza praised Kasozi’s leadership, describing it as transformational.
“We will forever miss him. He has been superb and has served above self. We are humbled and grateful for the time we have had him,” Kyaligonza said.
Kasozi’s exit marks the end of a chapter for Kitara, one that ushered in professional structures and renewed hope for the club’s future.
