Africa-Press – Uganda. The Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), Patricia Achan Okiria, has urged senior cadet prisons officers to embrace integrity, transparency, and accountability as guiding principles in their public service careers.
Addressing the officers at the Prisons Training School in Luzira, Okiria emphasised that proper management of public resources depends on strong systems of accountability and adherence to ethical leadership.
Her lecture, delivered under the theme “Public Financing, Accountability, and the Role of the IGG,” outlined the Inspectorate’s mandate in enforcing the Leadership Code and investigating misconduct.
She reminded the officers that transparency is key to building public trust, warning that corruption undermines service delivery and weakens governance.
“Public financing and accountability are crucial for the efficient and effective utilisation of public resources,” Okiria said, calling on the cadets to lead by example in their future roles.
The Deputy IGG also highlighted tools such as asset declarations and investigations as mechanisms available to ensure compliance with accountability standards across public institutions.
Cadet Officer Kobusinge, one of the trainees, said the session had strengthened her resolve to serve with integrity.
“Okiria’s advice on leading with integrity truly resonated with me. I’ve learned valuable principles that I will carry forward in my career,” she noted.
The engagement was part of the Inspectorate’s broader efforts to instill ethical leadership in Uganda’s public service, particularly among emerging leaders in the security and justice sectors.
