Africa-Press – Uganda. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has held talks with Sheikh Majid Faisal Al Qasimi, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Finance in Sharjah, to strengthen trade and investment relations.
Sharjah, which contributes about 12% of the UAE’s revenue, has emerged as a major hub for business in the Gulf region.
The discussions centred on forging partnerships and drawing lessons from Sharjah’s rapid economic growth over the last four decades.
“We value our friendship with Uganda, and we are committed to strengthening cooperation in trade, agriculture, and skills development,” Sheikh Al Qasimi said during the meeting.
Sharjah has already invested in Uganda through projects such as the construction of Kidepo Airfield and the establishment of a vocational training institute in Busoga.
Katikkiro Mayiga welcomed these initiatives, saying they offer vital lessons for Uganda’s development.
“There is a lot we can learn from Sharjah’s success, and this knowledge should be shared to benefit the people of Buganda and Uganda as a whole,” he noted.
The Katikkiro was accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE, Zaake Wannume Kibedi, and senior Buganda officials including Joseph Kawuki, Hajji Amisi Kakomo, Hajj Mutaasa Kafeero, businessman John Fred Kiyimba Freeman, Sheikh Abbas Nsubuga, and his deputy Umar Bakasambe.
The visit forms part of Katikkiro Mayiga’s ongoing tour of the UAE and is expected to pave the way for increased collaboration in agriculture, tourism, skills development, and investment.
