Dombo Defends Iuiu'S Nullification of NRM Certificate

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Director of Information and Publicity at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat, Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, has defended the decision by the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) to nullify a Mature Age Entry certificate that had been issued to Kitagwenda County NRM parliamentary flag bearer aspirant, Robert Mugabe.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, Dombo clarified the legal and academic standing of a Mature Age Entry certificate, stressing that it has limited applicability.

“A Mature Age Entry certificate can only be equated to an A-Level certificate for purposes of admission to university. It cannot be equated for any other purpose,” Dombo wrote.

He further noted that the university’s decision followed established procedures after investigations uncovered irregularities in the documents used to obtain the certificate.

“IUIU cancelled the Mature Age Entry Certificate of the Kitagwenda NRM MP flag bearer following findings of fraud,” he stated.

According to IUIU, Mugabe’s certificate was officially nullified by the University Board on January 2, 2025, following a petition submitted by concerned citizens.

The petition challenged Mugabe’s eligibility and called for the cancellation of his nomination on grounds of allegedly fraudulent academic documents.

The development has triggered mixed reactions, particularly among Mugabe’s supporters in Kitagwenda District and beyond. Some have expressed concern over the timing of the decision, coming as the electoral process gains momentum.

However, Dombo’s remarks signal the ruling party’s stance in support of institutional independence and adherence to the law, emphasizing that academic and electoral integrity must be upheld regardless of political affiliation.

The matter continues to attract public attention as stakeholders await further guidance from the relevant electoral and legal authorities.
