Africa-Press – Uganda. Former world steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru has pitched camp in Adjumani District to rally support for Gen Moses Ali, the Second Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County, ahead of both the forthcoming NRM party primaries and the 2026 general elections.

The athletics icon, who made history in 2005 as the first-ever women’s 3,000m steeplechase world champion, told New Vision that her decision to join the campaign trail stems from “honor and belief in steady, people-centered leadership.”

“Gen Moses Ali is more than a politician—he’s a symbol of resilience, just like I was in my sporting career,” said Inzikuru during a campaign rally in Ukusijoni Sub-county.

“I came to stand with a man who has held this country together through difficult times and who has championed the development of West Nile for decades.”

Clad in a yellow NRM t-shirt and a cap bearing Gen Moses Ali’s campaign slogan, Inzikuru addressed hundreds of supporters, urging the youth and women to rally behind “a leader who has never betrayed their trust.”

“When I won gold for Uganda, I carried the nation on my shoulders. Today, I ask you to carry this humble man, Gen Moses Ali, with your votes. He may be advanced in age, but his wisdom and experience are unmatched,” she said, drawing loud applause.

Speaking on behalf of the 84-year-old legislator, Gabu Amacha, the political assistant to Gen Moses Ali’s campaign task team, praised Inzikuru’s endorsement and highlighted the unfinished development agenda the general hopes to deliver.

“General Moses Ali still has work to complete. He wants to push for the construction of the Laropi Bridge, a long-awaited project critical to regional connectivity,” Amacha said during a press briefing at the General’s residence in Adjumani Town.

He added that Gen Moses Ali is also committed to the construction of a Health Centre IV in Adjumani West and the extension of electricity to underserved communities.

“These projects are not just ideas. They are promises grounded in experience and dedication. Gen Ali wants to ensure these milestones are achieved before his time in Parliament concludes,” Amacha emphasized.

Gen Moses Ali will face stiff competition in the NRM party primaries scheduled for Thursday, with Nixon Owole, Santos Adrawa, and Moses Kibrai all vying for the Adjumani West County flag bearer position.
