Africa-Press – Uganda. Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General Dr. Gerald Siranda has reiterated that attendance at the party’s Delegates Conference in Mbarara will strictly be by invitation.
Preparations are underway at Asamar Hotel in Mbarara City, which is set to host the conference starting Thursday, with the arrival of participants expected on the same day.
Dr. Siranda emphasised that only individuals with official invitations will be allowed access to the venue.
“I want to repeat and remind our people that attendance at this Delegates Conference is strictly by invitation from the Secretary General. Only those with proof of invitation will be granted entry,” Siranda stated.
Held under the theme “Overcoming Political Untouchability and Promoting Constructive Engagement,” the conference is expected to provide a platform to address key issues within the party, including elections, internal structures, and alliances.
“We will have the opportunity to tackle matters such as party elections and restructuring. We shall also use this platform to elect new party leaders from the national chairperson down to grassroots positions. If you’re seeking change, come to Mbarara,” he added.
While some members have previously boycotted similar conferences, Siranda maintains that the upcoming meeting is in full accordance with the party’s constitution.
“Anyone claiming that this conference is being held illegally outside the party’s constitutional framework simply doesn’t understand the DP constitution. As Secretary General, I am the chief convener, and I am operating within my mandate,” he clarified.
On Wednesday, chaos erupted at the party’s headquarters after several members some of whom are candidates for the party chairmanship found their names missing from the list of delegates set to attend the Mbarara conference.
