Africa-Press – Uganda. The Democratic Party (DP) has petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) over what it calls the unfair denial of nomination for some of its candidates despite fulfilling all legal requirements.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday, September 9, DP Secretary General Gerald Siranda expressed dissatisfaction with the way the nominations were handled.
“Our candidates were at the offices on time, yet some were not nominated. We demand a clear explanation from the Electoral Commission,” Siranda said.
He further noted that the party views the incident as an attempt to frustrate their participation in the upcoming elections.
“The EC is mandated to ensure free and fair elections, not to lock out candidates without clear reasons,” he added.
The Democratic Party says it has written a formal petition to the Electoral Commission demanding an immediate response and called on the Commission to uphold transparency and fairness in the nomination process.
