Africa-Press – Uganda. The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has convened a four-day workshop in Kampala aimed at developing a comprehensive Air Operations Manual to strengthen operational readiness and coordination across member states.

The workshop was officially opened by the EASF Joint Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. Stephen Kashure, who emphasized the importance of harmonizing regional air capabilities.

The gathering brings together technical experts tasked with drafting the combined manual and a memorandum of understanding to guide joint air operations within the region.

“This workshop marks a critical step toward strengthening regional air coordination and ensuring our forces can respond swiftly and effectively when called upon. By standardizing procedures and enhancing interoperability, we are improving readiness while fully respecting the sovereignty of our member states,” Brig. Gen. Kashure said.

EASF Coordinator Colonel Jancy Bizimana noted that eight participants from Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda are attending, with the aim of aligning operational procedures and establishing clear guidelines for joint air missions.

The EASF forms part of the African Peace and Security Architecture under the African Standby Force framework established in 2002, serving as the operational arm responsible for planning and conducting peace support operations in the region.

The outcomes of the workshop are expected to enhance interoperability among member states and strengthen the region’s capacity to respond effectively to peace support requirements.
