Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda’s government has assured the public that it is fully prepared to conduct the remaining LC I elections, with all necessary arrangements in place to ensure a peaceful process.
Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, addressed the media, noting that while most presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections have been completed successfully, a few residual elections in certain districts and counties will be held on February 17 to conclude the electoral cycle.
“For many years, the question has been how prepared we are to conduct LC I elections,” Baryomunsi said.
“We postponed them in previous cycles to avoid disrupting the flow of elections. Now, the Electoral Commission is ready, and government has allocated the necessary resources to ensure the process is smooth and peaceful.”
Baryomunsi emphasized that political parties and candidates are responsible for organizing internally and fielding their candidates. He expressed confidence that, as with previous elections, the LC I elections will be conducted without security challenges.
“From Karamoja to Kigezi, from Western Nile to Bukedea all parts of the country were able to participate peacefully in past elections,” he said. “There is no reason to expect anything different for LC I. Government is ready, the Electoral Commission is prepared, and Ugandans can exercise their right to vote securely.”
The minister’s comments come as Ugandans anticipate the final stage of the election cycle, which will see the selection of local council leaders at the village level, completing the nationwide democratic process.
