Africa-Press – Uganda. Hoima District Local Government has launched the construction of a Shs 24 billion headquarters office block located in Birungu LCI, Kitoba Town Council, along the Hoima–Buliisa road.
The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated on Thursday by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mbabazi Rodgers at the construction site.
Phase one of the project, contracted to R and D Traders and Contractors Company, will cost Shs845 million and is expected to be completed by late October this year.
The phase involves laying the foundation of the four-floor structure.
RDC Mbabazi urged the contractor to ensure quality standards and asked residents to monitor the project closely.
“I want to urge the contractor to use materials of high quality and also urge the local people here to continue monitoring this project. The NRM government wants to ensure that people can access services with ease. I encourage the contractor to give our people jobs,” he said.
District Chairman Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri described the construction as a major milestone in service delivery, noting that it will reduce the distance residents travel to access district services.
“This will be the home of our district. We have built a state-of-the-art theater at Kigorobya Health Center IV where people are now accessing services without going to the city. We will work on more roads in Kitoba Town Council and around the district to support our people,” he said.
Bugahya County MP Pius Wakabi pledged to lobby for more government support, while Chief Administrative Officer Emmanuel Ssempala called for additional funding from both government and development partners, warning that the district alone may not meet the project’s financial demands.
The launch was attended by district political leaders, technical staff, development partners including Centenary Bank, dfcu Bank, Opportunity Bank, Post Bank, Bwendero Dairy Farm, Hydromax Company, Uganda National Oil Company, Jane Goodall Institute, Reproductive Health Uganda, and leaders from Hoima City.
