Africa-Press – Uganda. The Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Uganda, Anita Annet Among, on Sunday revealed that she has two bosses: God, her creator, and President Museveni, and she will always do what the President wants and what pleases him.

Among, who boasts of leaving the Forum for Democratic Change to join the National Resistance Movement, says the ruling party gave her big positions and she can never antagonize its chairman, President Museveni.

“I want to thank NRM so much that I came from FDC and first you brought me as unopposed, you gave me a position as Deputy Speaker, you have tried me, tested me, now just know that I have passed the exam,” Among said.

“In passing that exam, I am that one person who will never antagonize my boss. I have two bosses—the first is my God and the second is President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. I will never, in whichever pressure, bring a motion of displeasure, a vote of no confidence—I can never do that,” Among added.

While speaking to NRM delegates in Mbarara, including four Members of Parliament, Among noted that even when legislators punch holes in a particular law and term it as bad, she first asks what the President wants.

“I have always told my members here, even when this law is very bad, what do we do? I ask them what the President wants. We will do what the President wants. I have always told the President, when you tell me, can you jump? I will always ask you, how high? And I will jump,” Among said.

She shared a story of her and the President when she asked whether Parliament was giving him a hard time, and he said how the 11th Parliament makes him get good sleep.

“I one day asked the President, feel free to tell us what you think about us—are we giving you a hard time? And he said, you actually make me sleep. He said, ‘I have never got a Parliament like this. Not that we are rubber stamps, but we appreciate what the government needs out of us,’” Among said.

“If we are passing a law on the issue of UPDF, we are improving the welfare of UPDF. We are saying if you are not a security person, why should you have guns? But people tend to misunderstand,” she added.

The Speaker says that some people mistake her and Parliament’s stand on some bills to be a fight against the President and a breed of corruption, which she says is done by people interested in funding from the outside world, especially in relation to the homosexuality act.

“If we are saying that a man must get married to a woman, why should you resist and say that we don’t want that law? That is where our fights are coming from. People that want to get money from the outside world on homosexuality are saying yes to it, and the government is saying no to that money—we want to preserve tradition and values,” Among said.

“But at the end of the day, people will start mimicking my voice that I am fighting Museveni. Somebody will start saying Anita is corrupt—no, because they think I am doing what should not have been done. And they will want to use that to reduce the popularity of the NRM party. And I am saying no, we will continue fighting for the party,” she added.
