Africa-Press – Uganda. Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka, the incumbent Nakaseke District Chairperson, has retained the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag, winning the primaries for the LC5 seat ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The results were officially declared by Paul Tandeka, the NRM registrar for Nakaseke District, at the party’s designated tally center at Nakaseke Technical Institute.

Koomu won decisively with 28,334 votes, representing 58.9% of the total. He was trailed by Tadeo Wasswa Ziritwawula, who garnered 16,826 votes (35%), while Charles Mwebaza came third with 2,935 votes (6.1%).

Tandeka praised both the candidates and the electorate for conducting the poll peacefully and in an orderly manner.

Speaking after the declaration, Koomu thanked voters for their continued trust in his leadership and promised to sustain the district’s development momentum.

“This victory belongs to the people. I thank you for your confidence in my leadership, and I remain committed to advancing our district’s progress,” he said.

With the party primaries concluded, political attention in Nakaseke now shifts to the 2026 general elections, where Koomu is expected to be a leading contender, buoyed by his strong mandate and established grassroots support.
