Internal Affairs Acquires Mobile Enrollment Kits

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced the acquisition of mobile enrollment kits to ease passport registration.

Spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi said on Monday that the kits will address challenges for people cannot be able to walk or drive to the ministry headquarters to have their biometrics captured.

“ For that reason, government of the listened to the cries of the people who have challenges of coming physically at the ministry and procured mobile enrollment kits for passports of the republic,”Mundeyi said.

“For instance, for the sick admitted in hospital, they will not have to walk to the ministry, or they will not have to be brought to the ministry in wheelchairs in order to have their biometrics captured. What is going to happen is that our officers are going to carry the machine in a briefcase and will go to where the patient is.”

Mundeyi said everything will be captured and passport made for them, noting that this will also happen to special cases like UPDF soldiers who might not be readily available to have their metrics captured at the ministry, adding that special treatment will also be accorded to VIPs like the president, vice president, speaker of parliament and other very important persons who might require to have their biometrics for passports taken from wherever they may be.

“We shall have to carry the kit and go to their offices and have their biometrics captured from there.”

Mundeyi said the kit will also come in handy in the diaspora where some of the Ugandan citizens live in states and areas far away from the embassy but require passport services.

“For example, there are areas where the Ugandan citizen requires to pay four times the cost of the passport for transport to the passport centre and this would be costly. So, our officers at the embassy will be going with this mobile kit to capture details from the area where the person stays.”

“Going forward, Ugandans living and working in those diaspora places will have to get their passports easily. It will be the duty of our officers at the embassy to keep flying to various states and capturing these biometrics and preparing the passports. And once the passport is prepared, it is then the officer himself or herself having to fly back to where they captured the biometrics from and handing over that passport.”
