Africa-Press – Uganda. Lieutenant Moses Mushabe, the Isingiro District NRM chairman and retired army officer, has unseated Security Minister Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi to become the new NRM Central Executive Committee chairperson for the Veterans League.

In elections held Monday at Kololo Independence Grounds during the NRM delegates’ conference, Mushabe secured 1,047 votes to defeat Muhwezi, who polled 570.

Also in the race were Jackson Walsimbi, who managed seven votes, and Titus Erisa Kiwanuk with 11.

Mushabe’s victory marks a significant political upset, toppling one of the longest-serving figures in President Museveni’s inner circle and signalling shifting loyalties within the ruling party’s veterans’ wing.

In July, Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde stood up to Maj Gen Muhwezi for the Rujumbura County NRM parliamentary flag but surrendered without pulling a trigger.

However, a lieutenant has now showed Gen Tumukunde how it is done after the stunning defeat.
