Africa-PressUganda. “The guys were good, they never pushed me around,” Justin Jjuko the former international boxer told journalists about his incommunicado detention by the army.

Juuko was arrested on December 12, 2020, at Kyazanga in Masaka on an alleged drive to mobilize polling agents for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party candidates in this year’s polls.An FDC coordinator in Greater Masaka region, “The Ugandan destroyer,” as he is always referred too was arrested together with another mobilize of the party identified as Garrypaul Mayanja.After spending 19 days in the military detention, Jjuko was on December 31 released after the military court dropped the charges.He had been charged with treachery contrary to Section 129(C) of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Act and illegal possession of firearms contrary to Section 3(1) and (2) (a) of the Firearms Act.Addressing journalists in Kampala for the first time since his release, Jjuko described the scenes during his arrest as “dramatic.”However, he said in all what he went through, he never experienced physical torture.”When I reached there, the guys were good, they never pushed me around. Actually, I was surprised they were professionals, they treated me well,” he said. Jjuko said that he read about the charges of illegally possessing a pistol and an SMG gun in the papers.”At Makindye I was laughing with the army guys because all my life I have never held a gun or even used bullet cartridges,” he said.
