Africa-Press – Uganda. A delegation from Kabale Regional Referral Hospital (KRRH) visited Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH) on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, to benchmark best practices in health service delivery and learn from the hospital’s innovations.
The delegation, led by KRRH Chairperson Dr. Ananaria Muhunde and Hospital Director Dr. Filbert Nyeko, assessed key areas including quality of clinical care, infrastructural development, hospital land management, the operational private wing, and research-driven decision-making.
During the visit, LRRH Hospital Director Dr. Andrew Odur highlighted the hospital’s progress in delivering high-quality care and the trust it has earned from other institutions.
“We take benchmarking very seriously. It gives us a lot of reflection. The time one starts to do something good is a big challenge for more work,” he said, noting that the visit motivated his team to further improve services for the people of Lango.
LRRH Principal Hospital Administrator Peter Okello Odeke welcomed the visit, saying it fostered exchange of ideas and strengthened collaboration between the two hospitals.
Dr. Muhunde said Kabale Hospital chose Lira for the benchmarking exercise due to its rapid growth and improvements in service delivery.
“We have learned a lot from Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Success is a clear result of clear thinking,” she said.
Dr. Nyeko described the visit as impactful and urged the KRRH team to implement lessons learned through what he called the “Lira Declaration,” emphasizing starting small, learning quickly from mistakes, and scaling up gradually.
The KRRH team commended LRRH for innovations including specialized services such as dialysis and pediatric surgery, hospital cleanliness, well-maintained walkways, staff motivation with minimal supervision, and successful attraction of external funding despite high patient volumes.
The visit highlights ongoing efforts by Uganda’s referral hospitals to share knowledge, improve health service delivery, and strengthen healthcare systems across regions.
