Kyabazinga Advocates Digital Literacy for Busoga Youth

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Kyabazinga of Busoga, Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, has emphasised the importance of equipping young people with computer literacy skills while grounding them in cultural values to enable them thrive in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

In a statement issued this week, the Kyabazinga praised development initiatives that prioritise youth and women empowerment, particularly in agriculture, noting that digital competence is now essential for sustainability and long-term growth.

“Digital skills are essential for sustainability. In a dynamic global landscape, equipping youth with these skills is crucial for them to thrive and become impactful leaders,” the Kyabazinga said.

He specifically commended programmes implemented by Heifer International, highlighting their focus on empowering women and young people across agricultural value chains.

He noted that such initiatives align with the kingdom’s broader vision of inclusive development and economic resilience.

The Kyabazinga reaffirmed the commitment of the Busoga Kingdom to partnerships that advance shared development goals and improve the wellbeing of communities within the region.

“This initiative empowers youth across various value chains and promotes inclusive financing,” he said, adding that collaboration between cultural institutions, development partners and government remains key to unlocking opportunities for young people.

He said youth empowerment efforts must go beyond skills training to also strengthen cultural identity, values and responsibility, which he described as vital anchors for young people navigating modern economic and social pressures.

The Kyabazinga’s remarks reflect growing recognition of the need to integrate digital literacy, cultural grounding and economic inclusion in youth empowerment programmes, in line with broader global efforts to promote sustainable development and inclusive growth.
