Africa-Press – Uganda. A brand-new Mercedes-Benz parked at the Uganda Law Society (ULS) House is turning heads across the country — not just for its luxury appeal, but as a bold statement of the legal sector’s commitment to digital transformation.
The high-profile prize is part of the upcoming #TechFest, Uganda’s first-of-its-kind digital transformation festival.
The event follows closely on the heels of the country’s successful hosting of the Middle East and Africa Digital Transformation Summit (MEA-DTS) in June 2025.
The car, valued at Shs190 million, will go to one lucky attendee, with entry tied to physical ticket purchases under the event’s “Back on Track” campaign.
“This isn’t just about the car — it’s about signaling a mindset shift,” said Anthony Asiimwe, ULS Vice President and TechFest co-organiser.
“We want to show that the legal profession is not resisting change. We are embracing innovation with purpose.”
TechFest will bring together legal practitioners, technology experts, and policymakers in a rare cross-sector collaboration.
Among the key organisers is Sheila Wagidoso, who is championing efforts to bridge the gap between traditional legal practice and modern digital tools.
A 2023 World Bank study found that digital adoption in the legal sector can boost operational efficiency by up to 30%, highlighting the potential impact of integrating technology into legal workflows.
“Lawyers have often been seen as slow to adopt technology, but that narrative is changing,” said Wagidoso.
“TechFest is our way of proving that Uganda’s legal community is ready for the future.”
Beyond the luxury prize, TechFest aims to be a serious platform for innovation and economic growth. Uganda’s recent role in hosting MEA-DTS has positioned the country as a rising hub for digital transformation in the region.
By linking physical ticket sales to a high-value giveaway, the ULS is deploying a savvy engagement strategy — one designed to boost attendance and ignite conversations around technology adoption in one of Uganda’s most traditional professions.
As the countdown to TechFest continues, the excitement is no longer just about winning a Mercedes-Benz.
For many, it’s about what the gleaming car represents: a legal community ready to get back on track and accelerate into a tech-driven future.
