Africa-Press – Uganda. Soroti City West National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate and National Vice Chairman (Eastern), Calvin Echodu, has told residents of Oderai and Majengo wards that true leadership is demonstrated through action rather than political rhetoric, especially when addressing the needs of ordinary citizens.
Speaking during his campaign tour of the two wards on Sunday, Echodu said leaders should be judged by what they deliver to the people, not by the promises they make.
He emphasized that leadership must directly respond to the challenges facing communities, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
Echodu told supporters that Soroti City West needs a new development direction focused on improving livelihoods, expanding opportunities for the youth, and strengthening social services. He said residents deserve better living conditions, access to quality education, and improved healthcare.
According to Echodu, industrialization is key to tackling youth unemployment in the city.
He noted that the National Resistance Movement (NRM), under President Museveni and through his leadership in the region, has the capacity and experience to attract investment, support small and medium enterprises, and create jobs for the growing urban population.
“It is time for a new Soroti where young people can find work, families can earn decent incomes, and social services work for the common person,” Echodu said, adding that the NRM remains committed to people-centered development.
As election day draws closer, campaigns in Soroti City West are intensifying, with candidates racing to mobilize voters ahead of the polls. The political atmosphere is becoming increasingly competitive as contenders seek to convince voters of their suitability for leadership.
Echodu faces stiff competition from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament, Jonathan Ebwalu.
Echodu accused the incumbent of focusing more on rhetoric than tangible results, saying voters should demand accountability and measurable impact from their leaders.
He urged residents to remain peaceful throughout the campaign period and to choose leaders who prioritize service delivery, improved welfare, and sustainable development for the people of Soroti City West.
