Africa-Press – Uganda. The third edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship came to a thrilling close on Saturday, with Kigenyi Hussein of Bunha chiefdom and Magemeso Mensulamu of Luuka emerging champions in the tippa and mountain sports bike categories, respectively.
The 170km race, flagged off by Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV, showcased the region’s top cycling talent.
“The theme ‘Abasaadha N’empango Mukulwanisa Ekifuna Mabuunda Mubaghaala Abato’ emphasises the importance of community participation and sportsmanship,” said Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, during the closing ceremony.
Kigenyi and Magemeso took home brand new motorcycles for their victories, while Mugoda Dominic (Butembe) and Kazimingi Lukumani (Kigulu) finished second in their respective categories, receiving shs 2 million each. Farmer Shafik (Bunha) and Kyawa Magidu (Luuka) secured third place, winning shs 1 million each.
“I’m thrilled to have won the championship,” said Kigenyi Hussein. “This victory is a testament to my hard work and dedication to cycling.”
The event, attended by dignitaries including OBB sports Minister Owek. Amin Bbosa and MTN’s marketing manager Kyejjwe Grace, saw participants receive tokens of appreciation, with shs 50,000 awarded to all finishers.
Dr. Muvawala praised the organizers and sponsors, emphasizing the event’s role in promoting sports and community development in Busoga. The MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship has become a highlight in the region’s sports calendar, showcasing talent and fostering community spirit.
