Africa-Press – Uganda. Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye described his recent visit to the Vatican as a humbling and blessed experience, meeting the newly elected Pope Leo XIV.

In the photographs from the visit, Mwijukye is seen presenting a carefully framed artwork to the Pope, depicting a historical religious scene, while the Pope receives it with a warm, gracious smile.

In another image, Mwijukye presents wa crafted artifact to the Pope, who holds it attentively as they exchange words in a close, personal moment.

“I was humbled and blessed to meet the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, at the Vatican. He is very humble and down to earth,” MP Mwijukye said.

Earlier in May, Mwijukye led 233 pilgrims from his home district to the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo for the annual Martyrs Day celebrations.

This visit to the Vatican continues the engagement, as Speaker of Parliament Anita Among also met Pope Leo XIV earlier this month, indicating ongoing cordial relations between Uganda and the Holy See.

The meeting underscores Uganda’s strong ties with the Vatican, blending diplomacy with faith, and highlights the personal commitment of MPs like Mwijukye to maintain spiritual and cultural connections abroad.
