Africa-Press – Uganda. The body of Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli has been transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination following her death earlier on Saturday.
Nakimuli passed away at Alexandria Medical Centre along Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala, a private facility specialising in women’s health services.
According to Robert Kyagulanyi, her death is believed to have followed an unsuccessful surgical procedure, although official confirmation of the exact cause is still pending.
The transfer of her body to Mulago came hours after news of her passing emerged, with authorities expected to conduct a postmortem to establish the precise cause of death.
Nakimuli, who represented Kalangala District in the 11th Parliament on the National Unity Platform ticket, served as a vocal advocate for island communities, focusing on healthcare access, transport challenges, and women’s empowerment.
Throughout her tenure, she was known for consistently raising concerns about service delivery gaps in hard-to-reach areas, particularly in the Lake Victoria island districts.
Leaders across the political divide have expressed shock and grief, describing her as a committed and outspoken legislator who brought attention to the unique challenges facing island populations.
Further details are expected as family members and authorities release official statements on the cause of death and funeral arrangements.
