Africa-Press – Uganda. The incumbent Kasese District Chairperson, Eriphazi Muhindi Bukombi, has successfully retained the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag after a landslide victory in the just-concluded party primaries.
Mr. Muhindi, who has held the top district seat since 2016, garnered an impressive 105,834 votes, representing 71% of the total votes cast.
He was officially declared the winner at exactly 11:40 PM on Wednesday by the District NRM Registrar, Mr. Amon Mbusa, at the tally center in Kasese town.
While announcing the results, Mr. Mbusa commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and emphasized that the tallied figures reflected the will of the party members across the district.
“After a transparent and peaceful process, I declare Mr Eriphazi Muhindi Bukombi as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for the position of District Chairperson in the forthcoming general elections,” said Mbusa.
Mr Muhindi faced stiff competition from four other aspirants, including the current District Speaker, Mr. Johnson Mayora, as well as Mr Mathina Mariseli Bwambale, Mr Bem Kirere, and Mr Ezekiel Ospas Mulhumbira.
The final tally showed:
Mariseli Bwambale Mathina: 15,625 votes (10%)
Johnson Mayora: 17,011 votes (11%)
Bem Kirere: 7,028 votes (5%)
Ospas Ezekiel Mulhumbira: 3,369 votes (2%)
Celebrations erupted at various polling centers across Kasese following the announcement.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Mr. Muhindi expressed gratitude to the electorate for entrusting him with the party flag once again.
“This is not just my victory; it’s a vote of confidence in the work we have done and the journey we must continue for the transformation of Kasese. I pledge to serve with even greater dedication and unity,” he said.
Muhindi will now represent the NRM in the 2026 general elections as he seeks another term to lead the district.
The Kasese NRM primaries have been closely watched due to the political significance of the district within the Rwenzori sub-region, with observers praising the organization and transparency of the electoral process.
