Africa-Press – Uganda. Former presidential candidate for the Common Man’s Party, Mubarak Munyagwa, has openly expressed frustration with opposition politics, saying his continued stay outside government is driven by circumstance rather than conviction.
“Honestly, I am tired of being in the opposition. I am in opposition because of circumstances, not because I love it,” Munyagwa said.
He added that his personality is incompatible with prolonged opposition politics.
“With my personality, I cannot stay in opposition. I want a president who is my friend.”
Munyagwa also weighed in on the security situation of opposition leaders, dismissing claims that all are under similar threat.
He pointedly referenced National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
“There is no point in hiding. It’s only Kyagulanyi who is hiding, and people say he is okay and happy. But why are the other presidential candidates not hiding?” he asked, while stressing that Kyagulanyi has the right to move freely.
Reflecting on his own electoral performance, Munyagwa acknowledged his limited national support but said the results were not entirely bleak.
“I received a few votes, which I accepted, but on average I got about five votes per polling station,” he said. He noted stronger showings in some areas, particularly Kitagwenda District, where he emerged second and obtained declaration of results forms.
Munyagwa said his political choices are shaped by a strong desire for personal freedom and proximity to power.
