Africa-Press – Uganda. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has launched his Mwanyi Terimba campaign tour with a visit to fishermen at Kasaali Landing Site, aimed at assessing their living and working conditions and encouraging sustainable livelihoods.
Addressing residents at Kasaali B, Mayiga commended the people of Buganda for their sustained participation in the coffee value addition initiative, which this year marks a decade since its launch.
“I thank the people of Buganda for embracing the coffee value addition initiative. Over the past ten years, it has enabled many families to improve their incomes and livelihoods,” Mayiga said.
The Katikkiro also underscored the importance of personal safety and health, urging residents—particularly fishermen—to take precautionary measures in their daily work.
“Use protective gear and take good care of your health. As you work today, always plan for your future and the well-being of your families,” he advised.
Turning to fishing activities on the lake, Mayiga cautioned fishermen against engaging in illegal fishing practices, warning that such methods are both dangerous and unsustainable.
“Illegal fishing has forced authorities to increase security patrols on the lake. I urge you to follow the law and protect the future of the fishing industry,” he said.
He emphasised that responsible fishing, combined with diversification into income-generating initiatives such as coffee growing, remains critical to improving household incomes and securing long-term economic stability across Buganda.
