Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni’s nationwide vocational training initiative has continued to earn praise, as 4,560 youth and women were admitted to the 19 Presidential Industrial Hubs for a six-month hands-on training programme that kicked off on August 1, 2025.

According to Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, the initiative offers practical skills in trades such as tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry, and leather design.

Upon completion, trainees will receive certificates equivalent to the Uganda Certificate of Education, along with startup capital to help them launch income-generating ventures in their communities.

“It is our vision to empower these young people with practical skills that can transform their lives and communities,” said Eng. Kamugisha. “We also plan to establish a TVET University that will allow vocational graduates to pursue diplomas and degrees outside the traditional academic system.”

At the Bukedi Presidential Industrial Hub in Kibuku District, 240 trainees arrived for the second intake of the year, prepared to begin their training. The hub’s manager, Ms. Teddy Ouma, said this marks the fourth intake at the facility, which has already seen remarkable success stories.

“This is a life-changing opportunity. In addition to vocational skills, trainees are learning agricultural practices under President Museveni’s Four Acre Model to further boost household income,” she added.

Kibuku Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Samuel Musiho, emphasized the value of the Four Acre Model in helping young people become self-reliant through sustainable agriculture.

Since its inception three years ago, the Presidential Industrial Hubs programme has trained over 15,000 youth and women across the country.

Similar enthusiasm was seen at the Mengo Zonal Hub in Kayunga District, where the fifth intake was warmly received. Local leaders including Butebo District LCV Chairperson Mr. James Okurut and District Commercial Officer Mr. Joseph Karyebi lauded the initiative for targeting vulnerable groups and creating sustainable pathways out of poverty.

Mr. Ahamada Ziyinda Musoke, Manager of the Mengo Zonal Hub, described the centres as “beacons of hope” for many young people who previously lacked access to practical education.

As the new intake settles in, Eng. Kamugisha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding vocational training and creating avenues for continued academic and economic growth.
