Africa-Press – Uganda. President Museveni has pledged to prioritize household income growth and wealth creation in Buikwe District, cautioning residents against focusing solely on physical infrastructure such as roads while overlooking productive economic activities.
Addressing thousands of NRM supporters at New Colony Playground in Lugazi Municipality, Museveni emphasized that sustainable development goes beyond tarmacked roads to include employment, wealth creation, and improved livelihoods.
He noted that government programs are deliberately designed to move households out of poverty through productive engagement.
The President assured residents that all development priorities raised in the district are included in the NRM manifesto and reaffirmed government commitment to their implementation.
As part of economic empowerment initiatives, Museveni announced that Shs1 billion will be allocated in the coming financial year to support fishermen acquire modern boats and legal-compliant fishing nets. The intervention aims to boost incomes while promoting sustainable fishing practices.
He also expressed concern over reports that some government funds fail to reach intended beneficiaries, citing complaints that money meant for ghetto youth was misappropriated.
Museveni urged citizens to demand accountability from leaders handling public resources and encouraged youths aged 18 and above to join Parish Development Model (PDM) structures.
The President warned against using leadership as a source of personal income, advising Ugandans to engage in productive sectors like agriculture and to take advantage of jobs created by factories under the NRM government.
On labour matters, he explained that the minimum wage has not yet been implemented to avoid scaring away investors and undermining job creation.
Turning to land issues, Museveni cautioned landlords against illegal evictions or subdividing tenants’ land to issue titles, describing such actions as unlawful.
He attributed persistent evictions partly to elected leaders failing to defend constituents adequately and pledged increased funding to help lawful occupants purchase land.
The Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, was directed to intensify public education on land laws to reduce violations caused by ignorance.
During the event, Buikwe Woman MP, Diana Mutasingwa, and other flag bearers were officially endorsed by President Museveni with NRM party flags.
Mutasingwa commended the NRM government for development projects in Buikwe, including a modern market in Lugazi and tarmacked roads with street lighting in Njeru and Lugazi municipalities, which have improved business and security.
She highlighted government programs such as the Parish Development Model and parish revolving funds, noting their contribution to poverty reduction alongside factories creating jobs for youth.
Mutasingwa also raised outstanding challenges requiring presidential intervention, including granting Kiyindi Town Council a funding code, construction of Kiwungi Primary School, and provision of a new ambulance for Kawolo Hospital.

. She reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to building an inclusive and prosperous Uganda.
