Africa-Press – Uganda. As Muslims in Teso sub-region joined the rest of the world to celebrate Eid al-Adha, religious leaders have called on the faithful to uphold peace and unity, especially during the ongoing political season.

Speaking during Eid prayers in Soroti City, the County Sheikh of Soroti and Soroti District, Sheikh Yusuf Okorom, urged Muslims to shun political divisions and remember their shared humanity.

“The Khatib reminded us today that Kulukum min Adam wa Adam min Turab we are all children of Adam, and Adam was created from dust.

There is no difference between an Arab and a non-Arab except in piety,” Sheikh Okorom said.

He warned against rising political tensions, especially among the youth supporting different political parties.

“Some are supporting FDC, others NUP, and others NRM. But now you find boys fighting or harming each other over politics. This is not what Allah wants. Earthly matters should not divide us,” he added.

The Sheikh also used the opportunity to urge community members to renew their national identification documents, saying many services, including transport and financial transactions, now require a valid National ID.

“We are in a season of national ID renewal. I encourage every Muslim out there to take this seriously. Without it, you may not be able to access services in the future,” he noted.

Eid al-Adha, one of the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It falls during the holy month of Dhul Hijjah, one of the four sacred months in Islam.

Sheikh Okorom reminded believers that the spirit of Eid should inspire them to practice humility, obedience, and peaceful coexistence.

“Let us use this holy season not only to celebrate but also to reflect. Our politics should be guided by respect, not violence.
