Namuganza Seeks Nullification of Bukono NRM Results

Africa-Press – Uganda. The State Minister for Housing, Persis Namuganza, appeared before the National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral tribunal today to formally present her case for the nullification of the primary election results for Bukono County in Namutumba District.

Namuganza claimed no official results were declared for her constituency due to widespread violence and irregularities at the tally centre.

She detailed how fighting erupted after her opponent, Emmanuel Maganda, refused to allow the registrar to tally votes from one sub-county, leading to the Electoral Commission calling off the tallying process.

Shockingly, Namuganza said, despite the confusion and incomplete tallying, a winner was eventually declared, a move she strongly disputes.

“I presented the evidence before the tribunal and hope they will do the right thing by cancelling these flawed results,” Namuganza said.

The minister’s challenge comes amid mounting tensions in Namutumba, where disputed NRM primaries have ignited a fierce political crisis.

Namuganza has accused senior party electoral officials, including NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Tanga Odoi, of manipulating the process to deny her and other candidates their rightful victories.

Speaking at Namutumba Town Council headquarters on the election week last month, a visibly angry Namuganza threatened to quit the ruling party if the matter is not resolved promptly, warning she may run as an independent or under a different party in the 2026 general elections.

“Speaker Anita Among and Tanga Odoi orchestrated all this confusion. Registrars and security forces were taking orders from them. We know the voters are our bosses—not Tanga,” she said.

The electoral turmoil also enveloped other races in the district. Incumbent Woman MP Mariam Naigaga was reportedly pushed aside in favor of Betty Nakisita, with Namuganza condemning the alleged imposition by party officials.

Adding to the chaos, the NRM electoral registrar for Namutumba, Richard Mwanja, reversed an initial declaration for the Busiki Constituency on Saturday.

He withdrew Paul Akamba’s declared win in favour of Joel Waiswa Azalwa based on final tally results, a move that only deepened suspicions of electoral malpractice.
