Africa-Press – Uganda. Residents of Nansana Division have been urged to use the 300 million shillings given to them under the Parish Development Model (PDM) carefully and productively to improve their household incomes.
The appeal was made by Hajjat Shabira Nassali from the Office of the President, during a meeting with local leaders and beneficiaries of the PDM program.
Hajjat Nassali reminded residents that the funds provided by President Yoweri Museveni are meant to support small-scale enterprises and help families transition from subsistence to commercial production.
“The President has trusted you with this money so that you can work and lift yourselves out of poverty,” she said. “Please invest it wisely in projects that will bring long-term benefits to your families and the community.”
Local leaders also advised beneficiaries to avoid misusing the funds or being influenced by politicians.
“This money is not for politics or handouts,” one leader cautioned. “It is meant for development. Let us use it to grow our businesses and improve our lives.” Idi Matovu Bugaga said.
Several beneficiaries express optimism that the support will help them increase their household income and improve their standards of living.
“These funds are a great opportunity for us to expand our small businesses and become self-reliant,” said one resident.
Meanwhile, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) officials warned residents against being misled by politicians who might refuse them from using the funds that it is for political influence.
“Do not let anyone deceive you that this money is meant to buy votes for NRM,” “This program is for every Ugandan, regardless of political affiliation. It is about development, not politics.” RDC Charles Lwanga said.
Local leaders and government officials met with residents to identify challenges faced by Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) and to prepare communities for effective utilisation of the new funds.
