Africa-Press – Uganda. NBS Sport has stepped up as the official broadcaster for the 14th Rotary Cancer Run 2025, aiming to raise a staggering UGX 4 billion to complete the Nsambya Cancer Centre’s radiotherapy bunkers.
This high-impact campaign, themed “Running for a Cause,” is scheduled for 31 August 2025 at Kololo Independence Grounds and across over 100 cities globally. With an expected turnout of 80,000 participants, the event’s coverage will be available on NBS Sport and via live streaming on AfroMobile, ensuring every Ugandan and diaspora supporter can join in real time.
Rotary Uganda’s campaign chair, Samuel Ngabwaki, explained that the required funds will go directly to installing linear accelerator machines—state-of-the-art equipment critical for treating cancer patients, which can only be accommodated in specially constructed radiation bunkers.
Ngabwaki praised Next Media’s role, stating, “Next Media are platinum partners. Their platforms allow us to spread awareness and mobilize communities. They’re holding our hands as we walk into these communities.”
Next Media’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Ben Mwine, echoed this sentiment, saying, “At Next Media, our mission is to inform to transform. Supporting the Rotary Cancer Run aligns with our values of positive community impact.”
The event will include a medical expo on 30 August, offering free cancer screening and awareness services. Run categories range from 3 km to 21 km, designed to be inclusive, from casual joggers to the most dedicated athletes.
With Uganda facing nearly 35,000 new cancer cases annually and over 22,000 deaths due to late detection, this initiative aims not just to raise funds but, more importantly, to boost early detection and lifesaving treatment. NBS Sport is proud to spearhead the broadcast coverage of this mission-critical event.
