Africa-Press – Uganda. NCBA Uganda has contributed Shs10 million in support of the 2025 Watoto Golf Tournament, emphasizing its commitment to empowering vulnerable women, children, and youth across the region.

The donation was announced during the tournament held at the Uganda Golf Club, which brings together professional and amateur golfers in a bid to raise funds for Watoto Church’s initiatives.

The funds raised from the tournament go toward supporting vulnerable mothers and children in communities across Uganda and South Sudan.

NCBA Chief Executive Officer, Mark Muyobo, highlighted the alignment between the bank’s social sustainability goals and Watoto’s mission.

“For decades, Watoto has been creating hope for vulnerable women, children, and young people by rebuilding their lives with dignity, purpose, and opportunity. At NCBA, we believe in empowering communities through initiatives that create long-term, sustainable change, and that is why we are proud to support this tournament,” he said.

The Watoto Neighbourhood Program has, since 2008, empowered over 6,500 women with skills to become self-reliant.

This year, the program aims to support 1,000 mothers with business starter kits valued at Shs350,000 each, a goal that NCBA’s contribution directly supports.

Muyobo further emphasized the broader impact of the tournament, noting that while golf brings participants together, the event’s purpose goes beyond sport.

“When you empower a woman, you strengthen a family, and when you nurture a child, you secure the future,” he said.

Entebbe-based professional golfer David Amooti Kamulindwa emerged victorious in the professional category at the second edition of the Watoto Golf Tournament, held at Kitante Golf Course, finishing with a total score of 5 under par 67.

Kamulindwa’s stellar performance included five birdies on holes 3, 5, 6, 8, 13, and 17, giving him a two-shot lead over his competitors.

Marvin Kibirige, winner of the Toolit Memorial, finished three shots behind at 3 under par 69, recording a birdie on hole 1, an eagle on hole 5, and consecutive birdies on 7 and 8.

Other notable competitors, including Deo Akope, Grace Kasango, and Irene Nakalembe, all tied with scores of 1 over par 73.

“These results are the fruits of hard work. Over the past week, I’ve been running 10 km every morning, hitting 300 balls on the range daily, and sharpening my focus through mental coaching with my new trainers,” Kamulindwa said.

The tournament, organized by Watoto Church, aimed to raise Shs350 million to support vulnerable mothers in local communities.

Over the past 30 years, Watoto has provided assistance to more than 6,000 vulnerable children and empowered 7,500 women through various community programs. Last year’s tournament raised Shs89 million.

T

his year, 29 members of the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) competed for Shs12 million, of which Shs5 million will be donated to the Watoto cause.
