Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has issued a strong warning to the public to remain vigilant and resist acts of corruption during the ongoing mass renewal of national identity cards.
Speaking to the media, NIRA Registrar Ollama Claire emphasized that the process is free of charge for specific services, including clarifications and changes of particulars such as residency.
“We want to remind all Ugandans that services like updating residency details are completely free. No one should pay for such changes,” Ollama stated.
She further clarified that NIRA does not offer express services and all applicants will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
“There are no shortcuts. We urge citizens not to fall victim to fraudsters who may promise faster services at a fee. That is illegal,” she added.
NIRA continues to call on the public to report any suspicious activity or individuals exploiting the renewal process for personal gain.
The mass renewal exercise is part of the national effort to ensure all citizens have valid identification as the country prepares for future national programs and elections.
