NRM Elections Tribunal Begins Hearings into over 380 Primary Disputes

Africa-Press – Uganda. The NRM elections disputes tribunal, chaired by John Musiime, has begun hearing petitions stemming from the party’s recently concluded primaries.

So far, the tribunal has received more than 380 petitions—a number expected to rise as results from the district LCV chairperson and municipal councillor primaries continue to trickle in.

The tribunal comprises 29 members and has been organized into eight panels, each consisting of three senior lawyers tasked with handling the high volume of petitions.

On the first day of hearings, 56 petitions are scheduled to be reviewed.

By 9am, several petitioners and respondents had arrived at the tribunal’s headquarters.

Among the high-profile cases is that of Napak Woman MP Faith Nakut, whose nomination as the party flag bearer is being contested by Naome Stella.

Former Deputy RCC Anderson Burora is also facing a challenge to his victory as the NRM flag bearer for Nakawa West.
