NRM Opens Expression of Interest for Party Chairperson

Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially opened the window for interested candidates to pick up expression of interest forms for the party’s top two positions — Party Chairperson and Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2026 elections.

This was announced by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, during the ongoing nominations for the Central Executive Committee (CEC) at the party headquarters in Kyadondo.

Initially, the forms were slated to be issued on Friday, July 4, the final day for nominations. However, the commission has now made them available starting July 2 to allow aspirants ample time to fulfill the necessary requirements.

“This gives those interested more time to gather the required signatures and meet the vetting deadline,” said Dr. Tanga Odoi.

Aspirants for either of the two top positions must collect at least 100 signatures from across the country and pay a non-refundable fee of 40 million shillings.

The completed forms are expected to be returned within two days to allow time for vetting by the Central Executive Committee.

The announcement came as CEC nominations entered day two, attracting high-profile contenders. Among those nominated on July 1 were Igara East Member of Parliament Micheal Mawanda and Nzaire Kaguta, a brother to President Yoweri Museveni.
