Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has postponed its party structure elections in Kotido Municipality following reports of electoral irregularities, including allegations that rival camps were hiding eligible voters.
The decision was confirmed in an official statement by Tanga Odoi, chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission.
The letter, also copied to Secretary General Richard Todwong and security officials in the Karamoja sub-region, cited concerns over the integrity of the electoral process.
“In light of the irregularities reported, especially concerning voters being hidden by rival camps, the NRM Electoral Commission has decided to postpone the Kotido Municipality Party Structure elections to Wednesday, 21st May 2025,” the letter read.
The commission said it had received several complaints indicating that some candidates were deliberately obstructing eligible members from voting—actions deemed a violation of party guidelines and a threat to free and fair elections.
Odoi emphasized that the postponement aims to restore public trust and ensure transparency in the electoral process.
The NRM has called on all candidates to adhere to the party’s code of conduct and to work with electoral and security officials to maintain order and fairness ahead of the rescheduled polls.
