Africa-Press – Uganda. Ntungamo District in Western Uganda is set for a vibrant weekend of sports and music, as the inaugural Coffee Marathon and Concert unfolds on Saturday, 24th May 2025, at the Africa Coffee Park in Rweshamire town.

Designed as a celebration of rural women’s contributions to Uganda’s coffee sector, the event pairs endurance races with live performances from some of East Africa’s top music stars—delivering both a physical and cultural spectacle.

Runners will compete across four distances—5km, 10km, 21km, and the full 42km marathon—on scenic routes that snake through lush coffee fields and along the shores of Lake Nyabihoko.

Organisers have earmarked Shs 116 million in prize money for the best performers, drawing both seasoned athletes and community runners into the mix.

But at the heart of the event is a deeper message: recognising the labour, resilience, and quiet strength of women in Uganda’s rural coffee-growing communities.

The theme, “Uplifting the Rural Woman,” seeks to raise awareness and pride in the unsung backbone of the country’s coffee value chain.

Participation costs Shs 30,000, a fee that covers both the marathon kit and access to the post-race concert—an evening of music expected to draw massive crowds from across the region.

The concert itself will feature a powerhouse of performers. Ugandan music icon Bebe Cool headlines the show, joined by Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz and BET Award winner Eddy Kenzo.

Other notable acts include Ray G, Sister Charity, Beberi, and Truth 256, creating a diverse playlist that caters to both local and regional tastes.

The event is spearheaded by Inspire Africa Group, which is using the occasion not just to entertain, but also to push an economic agenda.

With ambitions to scale Uganda’s coffee revenues from USD 1 billion to USD 5 billion over the next five years, the group views this celebration as a launchpad for wider engagement with the coffee economy—from production to branding, trade, and tourism.

As drums echo into the hills and marathoners blaze trails through the countryside, the Ntungamo Coffee Marathon and Concert promises more than just excitement.

It aims to honour, inspire, and energise a movement—where rural women aren’t just remembered, but revered.
