Africa-PressUganda. Congratulations! You have made it. It is time to celebrate all the hard work and poise that led to this monumental occasion. The road to graduation is characterised by many challenges that test the inner courage and resolution. It is time to take a moment at the summit to be proud of this achievement. Our parents say, “Webale obutatuswaza” meaning ‘thanks for not disappointing us’. This achievement has heightened the hopes your parents and nation have in you. You are much more valuable at this point. Thanks for the tenacity and efforts.

Whether you have already figured out what you want in life or not, this is common place to all graduates.

It is no doubt the world is not what it used to be. Everything moves faster today. This means, seizing an opportunity is more important than ever.

School offers clear and articulated structure while the real world is quite difficult to fathom and manoeuvre. Brace yourself with knowledge that your career path shall comprise of starts and stops, turns and twists and sharp U-turns. This is especially true in an economy where you have to seize whatever job opportunity that comes your way as opposed to one you want.

Taking full advantage of any opportunity and upskilling shall pay dividends with compounding interests. Remember, as a youth, time may be your only net worth. Proper use of time is recommendable. Seeking growth is key. Having a mentor is imperative. The senior citizens who have been-there-done-that are great stores of knowledge, and their guidance shall save you from many mistakes. Internships and volunteership opportunities should not be sidestepped. These present platforms to grow your career and have a clear sight of the real world.

Considering entrepreneurship, this is one of the things you may thank yourself to have done. Stretching yourself beyond limits and thinking outside the box is still rewarding with greater benefits. Pick the courage to learn about that business you want to invest in. Find connections and places to improve your skills and make the world a better place. The future is yours to create. This is a time for you to recalibrate your life basing on the systems you modify, destroy or create. Welcome to the adult world.
