Africa-PressUganda. MURDER | INVESTIGATION |The territorial Police in Kawempe has commenced investigations into the murder case by shooting of a professional boxer, Zebra Ssenyange. The famous boxer was a resident of St. Francis Zone, Bwaise III Parish.The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Luke Owoyosigire said according to eyewitnesses, the deceased was picked from his home on December 30, 2020, at around 1 am by unidentified assailants, not known in number.”They were travelling in two vehicles. He was later shot 400 meters away from his home and he died instantly,” he explained. Owoyosigire said the area police responded and have already documented the scene. “Crucial pieces of evidence and cartridges have been recovered from the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to City mortuary Mulago for a post mortem,” he said.Owoyosigyire said their task team of intelligence and investigators have started the process of building on the evidence collected with an aim of identifying the assailants behind the murder.Ssenyange was in the house with his wife and son. The wife has made a statement with the police.The area LC1 chairperson Abdulatif Ssalongo Ssekirime said he heard several bullet shots from his house, located three houses away from Ssenyange’s house, and later a resident came running that armed men had killed their resident.He said he rushed to the scene but from a distance saw the men driving away in about three omnibuses popularly known as Drone.Ssekirime said according to eyewitnesses, the assailants had trailed Senyange during the day and prepared well.He said the men knocked on Ssenyange’s door, he drew the curtain and when he realised that they were many and armed, he tried to flee.Ssekirime added that Ssenyange climbed and jumped his wall fence and fell in the compound of his neighbour and tried to escape through a corridor but he returned and surrendered to them.According to Ssekirime, Ssenyange knelt down with his arms up and pleaded for his life. He was also heard confessing that he was not a member of a certain political party and asked to be given a chance. “Instead, the men shot him while kneeling and putting up his arms and left,” he explained.According to Ssekirime, the deceased had been a trainer of several youths in boxing and martial arts using his gym called Lukanga Boxing Club.The National Unity Platform(NUP) spokesman Joel Ssenyonyi said Ssenyange had recently joined their party and had started mobilising area youth to join them. He appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate the matter fearing that many could face similar threats to their lives.
