Africa-Press – Uganda. The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) last night held its official handover ceremony at Protea Hotel, marking a new chapter in the leadership of Uganda’s premier PR body.
The outgoing Governing Council, led by President Tina Wamala, officially handed over the reins to the incoming Council headed by Irene Nakasiita, Director of Communications and Resource Mobilisation at the Uganda Red Cross Society.
The event was graced by George William Nyombi, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, as Chief Guest and featured an inspiring keynote address by renowned digital communications expert Patrick Adengo, a seasoned senior advisor in the digital and technology industry with over 20 years of experience.
Over the past two years, the outgoing Council under Tina Wamala’s leadership has delivered remarkable achievements that have strengthened PRAU’s financial stability, strategic relevance, and visibility within the profession.
The team set up effective governance structures and introduced alternative payment options for the association, such as the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), launched FlexiPay, secured strategic partnerships with industry leaders, and expanded membership across individual, student, SME, and corporate categories.
Tina Wamala expressed heartfelt gratitude in her farewell remarks:
“It has been an honour to serve alongside a passionate team dedicated to advancing our profession. The milestones we’ve achieved reflect the power of collaboration and commitment. I am confident that PRAU’s future is in great hands under Irene’s leadership.”
Incoming President Irene Nakasiita shared her vision for the next term:“I step into this role with deep appreciation for what has been built and a renewed sense of purpose.
Together with the new Governing Council, we will focus on growing PRAU’s impact, fostering continuous professional development, and advancing the PRAU Bill in Parliament to solidify the PR profession in Uganda.”
During her tenure, Tina also led the revival of the PRAU Excellence Awards, hosted two successful national PR symposiums, launched the PRAU Student Mentorship Program, and oversaw Uganda’s hosting of the 2nd East Africa Public Relations Week.
Some of the notable achievements under the outgoing Council include:
Growth in PRAU membership across all categories, with over 300 new and renewed members.
Successful cost management that reduced operational expenditure by Shs173 million (46%).
Active progress on the PRAU Bill, now awaiting tabling in Parliament.
As PRAU ushers in its new leadership, the association remains committed to upholding excellence, integrity, and professionalism in Uganda’s communication and public relations landscape.
