Africa-Press – Uganda. The Rotary Club of Masindi has secured a $98,000 (Shs350 million) grant from Rotary International to implement Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) as well as maternal health initiatives at Masindi Main Hospital. The project was officially launched at the hospital last evening.
Brenda Mugisa, president of Masindi Rotary Club, said the project responds to challenges identified during a hospital visit, including an outdated water system unable to meet current patient demands..
She urged well-wishers to help raise the remaining $8,000 needed to complete the project budget.
Engineer James Okuka, a club member, explained that the project will drill an underground water source and install a solar-powered water system to ensure continuous water supply.
Under the maternal health initiative, the hospital will receive beds and essential equipment to facilitate safe deliveries, along with training for health workers on handling the new resources.
Dr Rogers Musinguzi, acting executive consultant at Masindi Main Hospital, commended the club, noting that the project would significantly enhance service delivery and improve patient care at the facility.
