Africa-Press – Uganda. The Special Forces Command has distanced itself from the actions of two soldiers arrested by police for alleged kidnap and robbery.

Four people including two SFC soldiers were on Tuesday arrested by police after intercepting a vehicle they were travelling in .

On October, 31, one Bony Mfitemukiza, 25 a laboratory technician reported to police a case of aggravated robbery when he was kidnapped from Africa Oil petrol station in Bulenga by three men armed with a pistol and a rifle.

The suspects bundled him into his vehicle, a Toyota Noah registration number, UBK 464S and put him on gun point, orbing him of shs14 million, drove up to Katabi forest where he was put on gun point phone and ATM card taken.

The kidnappers later drove the victim to a mobile money point and withdrew money from his phone before abandoning him in Bwebajja trading centre at around 8pm.

The hunt for the suspects continued until Tuesday, November, 7 when the vehicle was intercepted by police at Golf Course traffic lights and on arrest, another victim, Gerald Kyazze was found in the boot of the vehicle on handcuffs after being kidnapped from Nansana.

Consequently, Pte Felix Twinomuhangi, 27, an SFC soldier attached to Mityana Military barracks and Pte Reagan Opio, an SFC soldier attached to Joma SFC detach were arrested.

Others were Andrew Ssevume, 22 a student and George Byaruhanga, 28 a businessman in Wakiso town.

However, in a statement released on Saturday, the SFC spokesperson, Maj Jimmy Omara confirmed the two soldiers belong to the Special Forces Command but condemned their actions which he said don’t represent the institution but rather individuals involved in the crime.

“This is a very sad and regrettable incident because the suspects who are supposed to protect the lives and property of the said wanainchi turned around and misused their roles for selfish reasons. This is an unacceptable, and, as SFC we shall make sure the due process of the law is swift for the victim to get justice,” Maj Omara said.

He added, “This is an isolated incident that does not represent the whole image of SFC. We also do sympathise with the victim for what he went through and at an appropriate time, we shall reach out to him.”

The SFC spokesperson said the two officers involved are soon going to be arraigned before the General Court Martial to answer the charges.

“We are confident that the court martial will speedily handle this case. From the day of arrest till now, a lot of evidence has been collected to allow prosecution to proceed.”

He also applauded police for cooperating with SFC at all stages of arrest and investigation of the case to ensure justice to the victim.
