Africa-Press – Uganda. The Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, has called for unity and responsible leadership among Muslims in Mukono following the swearing-in of Sheikh Abbas Zubair Ssenkuba as the new Kadhi of Mukono Muslim District.

Sheikh Waiswa urged the Muslim community to rally behind Sheikh Ssenkuba and resolve any disputes peacefully.

“I implore you to respect him, and if any misunderstandings arise, resolve them amicably without resorting to violence or exposing internal matters in public. Do not mix politics with religious affairs,” he said.

He also advised Sheikh Ssenkuba to lead with humility, engage in consultations before making decisions, and maintain close ties with the people he serves.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Mukono Muslim Primary School sports grounds in Kiyunga along the Mukono-Kayunga highway.

The event was presided over by Sheikh Waiswa and His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, on behalf of Uganda’s Mufti, Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje.

A large congregation of Muslims, dignitaries, and religious leaders attended the function, including officials from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters, led by UMSC Secretary General Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi.

Also present were UMSC General Assembly members, Regional Assistants to the Mufti for East Buganda and Kampala, neighboring district Kadhis, and Mukono Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajjat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka, who led the government delegation.

At exactly 1:30 p.m., Sheikh Ssenkuba took the Oaths of Allegiance and Secrecy, officially assuming office. The oath-taking was administered by the UMSC Electoral Commission team, led by its Secretary, Hon. Badru Kateregga.

Following the swearing-in, the Mukono Muslim District Secretary presented a four-page report on the state of Muslim affairs in the district.

Outgoing District Kadhi, Sheikh Shazir Lumala, formally handed over office and advised his successor to exercise caution when dealing with business figures, politicians, and vulnerable members of the community.

In his inaugural speech, Sheikh Ssenkuba pledged to foster unity and development within the district. Mukono RDC Hajjat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka assured the gathering of the government’s continued support, while Haji Muluubya called for stronger cooperation between Mukono’s local government and Muslim leadership, particularly on halal-related matters.

The event concluded with a renewed appeal for unity, responsible leadership, and collaboration within the Muslim community.
