Africa-Press – Uganda. A speeding vehicle rammed into a stationary vehicle that was being jump-started at the Kajjansi Toll Gates on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway, triggering renewed safety concerns at the busy toll section.
According to a road safety update shared by the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway management on X, the Monday morning incident occurred when van stalled at the toll post and had to be jump-started.
“As efforts were underway to restart the vehicle, another motorist approached the toll plaza at high speed and failed to brake in time, crashing into the stationary vehicle,” the toll gate management said.
Authorities said the driver also failed to observe that the lane had been closed, despite visible signage and toll gate signals indicating the closure.
No fatalities or injuries were immediately reported, but the incident disrupted traffic flow at the toll section as officials worked to secure the scene and restore order.
The expressway management reiterated the importance of adhering to toll gate instructions, emphasizing that a red “X” signal indicates a closed lane and must not be ignored.
Motorists are required to reduce speed to 20 kilometres per hour when approaching toll gates to ensure full control of their vehicles and safeguard toll staff and other road users.
Officials also reminded drivers to conduct routine vehicle checks before travel, including inspecting brakes, batteries, engines and tyres, noting that mechanical failure can create hazardous situations, particularly at controlled traffic points.
The Kampala–Entebbe Expressway remains one of Uganda’s busiest highways, handling thousands of vehicles daily.
Authorities say strict compliance with speed limits and toll gate regulations is critical to preventing similar incidents.
