Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has deployed 1,100 field data collectors across the country to complete the data collection exercise for the Baseline Education Census 2025.
According to UBOS, the exercise will run from October 27 to October 30, 2025, targeting all government primary schools in the sub-regions of Acholi, Bunyoro, Karamoja, Kigezi, Rwenzori, Tooro, and West Nile.
The exercise resumes following the end of the industrial action by government primary school teachers that had disrupted the third term.
The census aims to gather detailed data on learners, teachers, non-teaching staff, and school infrastructure. Information collected will include learners’ names, ages, nationalities, identification numbers, and any special needs; as well as teachers’ qualifications and institutional details such as operational status, license, and location.
Didacus Okoth the UBOS Spokesperson urged head teachers, local government authorities, and the public to cooperate fully with the enumerators.
‘’The Uganda Bureau of Statistics wishes to appeal to the general public, headteachers of primary schools as well as the local government authorities to cooperate with our census enumerators who have been deployed starting today and in a very special way UBOS appeals to all parents of the leaners to support this exercise with availing leaners with their correct date of birth and all the necessary information’’ Okoth noted.
The exercise is critical for improving the management and planning of the education sector. UBOS appeals to all stakeholders to support the teams in the field as they collect accurate and timely data.
The exercise that was flagged off in April by the Minister for Education Janet Museveni hit a snug when Arts teachers especially those in government primary schools went on strike at the beginning of third term.
