Africa-PressUganda. Milton Karisa scored twice and created another as Uganda hit Niger 3-0 last evening to end their Pre-Chan Mini Tournament with six goals against one in Cameroon.Uganda’s showing in Yaounde ahead of next weekend’s Chan finals has raised some excitement amongst observers going by TV commentary during yesterday’s game.“They will surely be a force to reckon with here when the tournament begins,” said one of the commentators.

Coach Johnny McKinstry’s men, coming off a 1-1 draw with hosts Cameroon and 2-0 win over Micho Sredojevic’s Zambia, were 3-0 up inside the first 14 minutes. Karisa, who also scored against Cameroon last week, latched onto a high ball, shrugging off a Niger player and sliding the ball beyond the opponents goalkeeper on three minutes. The Vipers winger turned provider seven minutes later, running onto a pass down the right, where he beat two of his markers before cutting back for Saidi Kyeyune to make it 2-0.

Soccer clinic

It was turning into a clinic, URA’s Joachim Ojera embarking on a mazy run through the middle, where he mixed the two ‘surviving’ Niger defenders, before presenting it to Karisa for 3-0 on 14 minutes. The second half was largely uneventful, with both teams playing a calculative game. Elsewhere, McKinstry named his final 25-man squad for the Chan finals, adding Brian Aheebwa, Bright Anukani, Charles Lukwago and Denis Iguma, who have just been on continental duty with KCCA.

The Cranes will now change base from Yaounde to Douala, where Group C will be for the first phase of the competition.Uganda are looking to progressing from the group for the first time in five attempts, and McKinstry is is the fourth coach to take on this task.
