UPDF Announces Capture of ADF Base in DRC

Africa-Press – Uganda. Offensive UPDF forces under Operation Shujaa in eastern DRC have captured Allied Democratic Forces leader Musa Baluku’s base camp in Apakwang, Ituri Province.

According to Col Chris Magezi, the military assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the camp was captured on Thursday.

“After air and artillery strikes last Sunday morning, UPDF troops advanced and captured a huge camp that used to accommodate 1,000 to 1,500 terrorists and their families. This was achieved on Thursday. The UPDF forces also captured huge gardens of rice, beans and cassava,” Col Magezi said.

He noted that hot pursuit against fleeing ADF remnants further west in the offensive is ongoing.

Following the launch of attacks against their camps in Eastern DRC by a joint UPDF and FADRC forces, ADF rebels have been on the run since December 2021.

However, the joint forces have inflicted a lot of damage on ADF, with many of their camps overran, several commanders killed and other captured as well as several foot soldiers killed.

On other hand, several captives have been freed while locals in the areas previously controlled by ADF have hailed the UPDF for ensuring peace returns.
