Africa-Press – Uganda. Local nonprofit organisation, Viva Caring Hearts Foundation, has launched the Seeds of Impact project—an agricultural campaign aimed at boosting food production and reducing domestic violence in Ntungamo District.
The initiative, officially launched on June 30, seeks to support vulnerable households with maize and bean seeds, ahead of the upcoming planting season.
Running through August 15, 2025, the campaign is designed to combat food insecurity, which the foundation says has been fueling domestic violence, school absenteeism, and general community distress.
“We did a case study in Ntungamo and found low production of beans and maize. Many families are eating only once a day,” said Elick Kahumuza, founder of Viva Caring Hearts Foundation.
“Due to this, we have seen a rise in domestic violence and children going to school hungry.”
Under the project, each selected beneficiary will receive 10 kilograms of beans and 5 kilograms of maize. The foundation is targeting a distribution of 10 tonnes of beans and 5 tonnes of maize before mid-August.
Kahumuza said the initiative is rooted in real community need.
“We’re not just giving out seeds; we’re fighting hunger, restoring dignity, and protecting homes. When there’s no food, there’s no peace.”
He added that the foundation is actively seeking support from donors, civil society, government agencies, and individuals to help reach their target.
“We are calling on everyone to support this campaign, whether financially or through in-kind donations of beans and maize. This is a call to action.”
The campaign also aims to promote sustainable farming among low-income families, especially in rural Ntungamo, where many households rely on subsistence agriculture.
According to Kahumuza, the declining productivity of staple crops like beans and maize has left many families unable to meet even basic nutritional needs.
Bishop Nathan Kamusime Gasatira, Chairperson of Viva Caring Hearts Foundation, praised the campaign for its long-term vision and community impact.
“We cannot talk peace in hungry homes,” said Bishop Gasatira. “Agriculture is the most sustainable way to empower our people to live dignified lives. This initiative gives people more than just seeds—it gives them hope.”
Sister Josephine Owomukama, the foundation’s Vice Chairperson, echoed his sentiments, saying food insecurity is a form of silent violence that traps families in cycles of poverty and conflict.
“Poverty has robbed many families of a future,” she said. “When parents have no seeds to plant, they have no harvest, no income, and no peace. Supporting agriculture is not just charity—it is justice.”
The Seeds of Impact project forms part of the foundation’s broader mission to uplift communities through sustainable development, faith-based engagement, and social empowerment.
With planting season fast approaching, Viva Caring Hearts Foundation remains optimistic that collective action can help turn the tide in Ntungamo—one seed at a time.
The organisation has appealed for well-wishers to boost the campaign via their mobile phone lines 0760150500/ 0748019194 or for donations on o783489145 (Elick Kahumuza)
