Africa-Press – Uganda. Kayunga District has intensified efforts to empower women through training under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), aimed at equipping beneficiaries with practical skills before they can access financial support.
The initiative targets organized women groups across the district, providing them with knowledge in business management, financial literacy, savings culture, and project planning.
Collins Kafeero, a district official in Kayunga, emphasized that the training is a crucial step to ensure that funds disbursed under the programme are used effectively and sustainably.
During a training session held at the district headquarters, Kafeero noted that many women have previously struggled to sustain businesses due to limited skills in financial and enterprise management. He added that the training seeks to bridge this gap by preparing participants to invest wisely, keep proper financial records, and grow their ventures.
He further explained that participants are also guided on forming strong group structures, which is a key requirement for accessing funds under UWEP. This collective approach is intended to promote accountability and peer support among members.
District leaders have encouraged more women to embrace the programme, noting that it presents a significant opportunity to improve household incomes, reduce poverty, and enhance community development.
The Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, implemented by the government of Uganda, focuses on supporting women through capacity building and access to affordable financing, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
