Patriotic Daka set to lead Chipolopolo against Israel

Africa-Press – Zambia. Leicester City forward Patson Daka is set to lead the Chipolopolo on Thursday when they take on Israel in an international friendly match. Daka was among the first players to jet into the holy land for tomorrow’s highly anticipated high profile encounter.

The former Power Dynamos man has received criticism in the past for missing the March international window games due to a family commitment. After missing the September FIFA window match which Zambia lost to Mali 1-0, the whispers of his lack of commitment only increased despite the Association forwarding valid reasons for his absence.

It is admirable that Daka, 24, is shown everyone how committed he remains with the match heavily sandwiched between his best friend, Enock Mwepu’s unexpected early retirement due to a hereditary heart condition and his own wedding.

Daka is expected to tie the knot with fiance and Athlete, Suwilanji Mpondela in a few days but has put that important life milestone on hold for now to lead the Chipolopolo against Israel.

The team is already missing 2012 AFCON winning defender Stophila Sunzu who was knocked out by COVID-19 travel restrictions, Scottish based duo of striker Fashion Sakala Jnr and defender Frankie Chisenga Musonda who are both injured.

Others are Simba SC duo of striker Moses Phiri and midfielder Clatous Chota Chama who have not been released by their club. Daka ended the Cameroon 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with five goals to emerge as the top scorer.

The match will be played on Thursday at 20H00 CAT at the Hamosheva Stadium. The match is being used as part of preparations for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Lesotho in March next year.
